Update on our Community

While I await pictures for week 20 I thought it would be an opportune time to write an update. Only4 more weeks to go and we'll be done. It has been an awesome year with some fantastic families!

I have been privileged to sub-tutor a few times and I have really enjoyed it. The children are hard working and plow through their grammar with gusto. They seem to really get into the Science or Art projects. They did quite a bit of painting this semester while studying several impressionists.

For Science today the students started building bridges with rubber bands, straws, and play dough. It's an activity of using their thinking skills, no matter how young a child, to build something that will hopefully not collapse with some weight on it. The parents are instructed not to help. I'm sure this can be difficult especially with the 4-5 yr olds. It's encouraging to see the students work together in a group to figure out what they will do. In the Masters class some of the guys actually drew plans first. As we finish up next week, we'll find out which of the students' engineering skills emerge when we conduct some tests on their creations.

I have been impressed with the family presentations. It's been a joy to see what they come up with. Here's a few we have had: a missionary story, World War II, birth order, the benefits of smiling, Abraham Lincoln, Fibonacci Sequence,the Lone Ranger, Jesus' birth, & fire fighting. I'm amazed how the children get up in front of about 50 people with confidence and project their voices clearly, while all of us timid parents try to follow their lead of fearlessness. They teach us!

I praise the Lord for His abiding love and presence as we have gathered together every week. We come from various backgrounds and churches, but we all have a common goal of educating our children for the glory of God. What better way than to do it in a community like Classical Conversations!
